On the day of the Trashion show, I was asked to render assistance to the makeup team. I had never done makeup for this type of thing, so this was new, distressing, and exciting to me! Although it was my first time, the creative team leads made sure that we were comfortable. There was music blasting, sugar present, and lots of great vibes. The model I worked on was so sweet. He made my job super easy. I was laughing most of the time that I worked on his makeup.

Each time I’ve come out to assist the teams, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the wonderful attitudes, happy faces, and creative fingers moving. In the esthetician program, I rarely get a chance to talk with other students working towards different goals at 91成人. I love the opportunity to meet new people and learn various techniques. And it’s quite remarkable to see all of the talent that the students as well as the faculty possess bringing art to life.

This was a great opportunity to work with others and test my personal limits. Thank you 91成人 for providing me the creative space to thrive! Can’t wait to see what we’ll do next!

Every year, around the time of Earth Day, the school is brimming with activity. Students work for donations for clean water initiatives and other environmentally-friendly causes.
One of the highlights of this season is the Trashion Show. It鈥檚 a simple premise鈥攁 fashion show where every garment is a student creation made from recycled materials. All decorations are hand-made, all make-up is environmentally conscious, and the overall style is meant to promote a healthy and balanced world. While this vision is simple, the student work and dedication is anything but. Here is a gallery of the 91成人 2013 Season Trashion Show with all of the fun and creativity in plain view. 91成人 has some of the best beauty students in the industry. We are proud of each and every one of them. Sometimes, though, we have to boast about how great our students are. For the second year in the row, ever since 91成人 started participating in the Professional Beauty Association鈥檚 (PBA) prestigious Beacon competition, our students have taken top honors and honorable mentions. Beacon is part of the PBA Beauty Week, North America鈥檚 largest, most inclusive beauty event hosted by Cosmoprof North America.

Beacon provides the nation鈥檚 most promising cosmetology students with education and opportunities to network with the industry鈥檚 highest profile salon owners and stylists during PBA Beauty Week, July 12-14, 2014 in Las Vegas. Beacon students attend specialized classes with the biggest names in the industry, get up close and personal with NAHA finalists and get a firm understanding of the business of beauty.

This recognition is important not only for the winners but for the whole school. We are celebrating with you 鈥 Sunny, AiLi, Katherine, Saajida, and Andromeda 鈥 we are all incredible proud of you, of your accomplishments and talent, and of how well you鈥檝e represented 91成人 to the world.

PBA Beauty week logo Beacon winners receive free tuition, and honorable mention attendees pay a small fee, to attend PBA Beauty Week in Las Vegas, which includes a full line up of education tailored specifically to them. Students are also able to tour the Cosmoprof North America trade show floor to meet beauty business leaders and attend PBA鈥檚 annual Business Forum where they can learn the role global distributors and manufacturers play in the industry. As part of this year鈥檚 Beauty Week, PBA is encouraging Beacon winners to post the 鈥淚鈥檓 Going to Beacon 2014!鈥 graphic on their social media pages as a way for their followers to support them on their journey to Beauty Week.

I was fortunate enough to help with the horror film that the academy of arts put on. I did two 10 hours days. They were long but fun days!
To see how a film is actually shot from the behind the scenes point of view was an extraordinary experience. I view films so differently now that I got this experience. I had to do makeup and hair for the scenes. With that I had to touch up their make up with our Aveda finishing powder and our air control hair spray.
One scene was in a Chinese restaurant and there were two guys and two girls, which were the main characters. The next scene I worked on was a bathroom scene which I had to keep up on their make up twice as much because they were running into the bathroom. In that confined space I got to know the actors a bit more and talked a lot with the sound guys. The last scene I did was in “art studio” they just put it together with fake walls. One actor finds a robot which then comes to life.
While they were shooting that scene I helped decorate and put make up on four Aztec men. Which I was not complaining about one bit!
It was such an awesome experience and all my family members always got excited when I had something new to tell them about. I cannot wait until they are done editing the movie so I can finally watch my work in action!

Every year Cinta Aveda throws a fashion show / competition to help raise money for the . The outfits are made completely out of recycled materials, and hair and makeup done in that extravagant hair show way.
Trashion Show Model
At our school, we helped raise money by doing what we called Jeans for Greens. At school we have a dress code of all black. But, for several months leading up to the Trashion Show, we were permitted to wear jeans on Fridays and Saturdays if we donated five dollars to the Clean Water Fund ourselves. We exceeded our goal! Although the Trashion Show is a runway competition for professional salons, as a school, we got to participate in the fashion show, but not in the competition. The clothes we made (mostly dresses of some sort) were primarily made from newspaper, coffee filters and rope made from braided newspaper. I worked on three models, two of which had short hair. The two with short hair I did a curling iron set on and sprayed them up with some , into a sort of wave effect. The long-haired model I added some green extensions to her vibrant red hair. I french-braided her hairline across the front and teased it up to give it some flare. The back I took into a french twist. The green tails of the extension I left out and sprayed up into a nice fan on the side of the twist. Voil脿!

I had not heard too much about it, and was not sure what to expect. Twice is a secondhand fashion brand, where you can buy or sell designer clothes online. At the event you could bring clothes and sell them or swap with other people selling their clothes.

This was their first time holding an event and I was so happy to be a part of it. They had a DJ and a catering service as well. The founders of Twice previously worked at Google and discovered that there wasn鈥檛 a website where you can buy secondhand designer brands. I think it is a great idea because I always have clothes that are still new and not worn that just don鈥檛 fit anymore, or that I don鈥檛 wear.

They partnered with Cinta Aveda to do touch-ups with hair and makeup. I signed-up to help with the makeup and it was a great experience. All the people that came were so nice and were having a lot of fun.

There was also three other girls helping with makeup and 4 hair stylists. Some of the women that came in didn鈥檛 have time to do their makeup so they were thrilled that we were there. It was fun just to have everyone in the room have their makeup and hair done up.

]]> Young, Wild and Free Summer Fashion Show /blog/young-wild-and-free-summer-fashion-show/ Thu, 25 Oct 2012 10:00:51 +0000 http://cintaaveda.com/blog/?p=362 Being a part of not only gives Cinta Aveda students a chance to explore their inner artistic side, but also allows us to make connections with other stylists and potential guests; therefore, taking us out of our comfort zone from school and letting us flourish within an unfamiliar setting. It鈥檚 a great opportunity to receive hours outside of our three-day school week, and helps with building our future portfolios and resumes. (located on Fillmore and Greenwich) hosts a fashion show once a month on Thursday nights with different designers and promoters. The last show we participated in was the Young, Wild and Free Summer Fashion Show, which included designers from , , and . It鈥檚 a great experience to work with volunteer models that have a variety of different looks, body structures, backgrounds and hair textures. The setting is fast-paced and crowded, but we work as a team to be efficient and make every model look unique and beautiful. We are fortunate to have students who are just as amazing in makeup as in hair.

Although the space is small and power outlets are a hot commodity in our designated area, everyone has an amazing time meeting new people, taking photos, and expressing their talent. This last fashion show contained looks that required big, curly, crazy hair and more subtle make-up. Upon arriving, we immediately take any models that have already arrived and do a curling-iron hard set on their hair. This is to ensure that we have ultimate body and a base to work with when doing the final touches. The men models tend to be more simple and modern with little work needing to be done, which leaves more focus on the woman. We need to use enough products to guarantee that the hair will聽out-stand聽three to four outfit changes, the heat produced by the overwhelming crowd that comes to check out this event, and the girls tendencies to constantly play with their hair. Overall, doing Creative Team events like this is an amazing experience and fortunate to have it at this school!

This team attends fashion shows, beauty shows, and private photoshoots to give students a feel of the real world. The creative team usually works together with the to complete a successful photoshoot.
The Creative Team is made of hairstylists and estheticians. Hairstylists main focus is on the hair and make-up if needed. Estheticians focus on make-up, mini facials to prep the skin and waxing if needed.
A couple months ago the Creative Team attended an event called the Trashion Show in which they created their own outfits with recycled materials. This event took place in SF at and most of the money raised was given back to the .

After attending these events and聽photo shoots聽 students are given pictures of their work to put into their portfolio. The photographs that are taken at these events are done by professional photographers with years of experience.
Students in the creative team can also volunteer with the Academy of Art University and use their own time to attend some of their photo shoots.
Being in the Creative Team is a great experience and if attending the Cinta Aveda institute it is highly recommended. The Creative Team is all about art, fashion, beauty, and students work being expressed. 聽In the Creative Team you do a lot of networking which can lead to great opportunities in life.

At school we are constantly hearing about different opportunities available to the students.
The Academy of Art and Cinta Aveda students team up and put their artistic talents together to bring what鈥檚 in front of the camera and behind the camera together. You can use the pictures with the photographer鈥檚 permission and start a portfolio. Its also great real life work experience. You can even get hours from the school this way.
Some of the guest speakers have included Cinta Aveda graduates, company owners, different skincare lines and many other people in the industry. It鈥檚 awesome that we get to hear about the industry from such successful individuals and it鈥檚 a great way to make connections. All the speakers are more than willing to answer questions and give the students helpful information about finding jobs, and working the field.

We also get special invitations to shows that are for professionals only. Last month I had the opportunity to go to a backstage show for pros only. Not only were the products discounted for us but we got to hear first-hand about great makeup techniques and situations that happen in real life from some extremely talented makeup artists. We鈥檝e even had speakers come to talk to us about how to run a business and the financial side of the business which was really eye opening. We are always getting the inside scoop here at a Cinta Aveda which just puts us one more step ahead after we graduate.

Braids are everywhere and there are so many different types! Braiding can be very hard for some people, but it just takes some coordination and patience.
The best place to search for and learn how to do all different types of braids is . You can get step by step visual tutorials on how to create the look your going for. The different types of braids being advertised are: french, fishtail, waterfall, twisted, english braid (standard) and corn rows. Each braid has a time and place for every event!   1. are very common and they create a pulled back, elegant style. I love having french braids put in my hair and wearing my hair wavy the following day! You can wear a single french braid or multiple french braids.
  2. The is actually very easy to do once you get it down. I had a hard time to start but caught on fairly quick. These braids are awesome and resemble the tail of some fish, hence the name! Fish tails are done by holding two strands, as opposed to the standard three.
  3. are trending like crazy, they are so beautiful and give a look that looks like you really spent time when maybe you didn鈥檛! its almost the same as french braiding, except every pass over you leave out a strand and pick up a new one.
  4. are done with two strands like a fish tail, and are extremely easy to create for a quick run-out-of-the-house style!
  5. English braids are your standard, old-school, three strand braid. They are very easy to create and are perfect for getting your hair out of the way fast with some style.
  6. The last braid I mentioned are which are used for weaving in extensions, or they can create a tight to the head braided hairstyle.

Braids are often used now with up-do鈥檚 and wedding hairstyles, as well as simply french braiding your fringe backward to get it out of your face! Have fun with these different types of braids!
